8:00am-12:00pm or 12:00 pm-4:00pm/total of 16 hours per week

$18.00 The Beth-El Center's mission is to extend dignity and respect to all individuals and families while connecting them to housing, food, and services within their communities. Our vision is to create a community where everyone is home, and all are fed! The Beth-El Center is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that provides support services and advocacy to those experiencing homelessness and hunger in the Greater Milford community. Through our 34-bed homeless shelter, food service programs, diversion services, and outreach and engagement efforts, we offer individuals, families, and veterans long-term solutions to help them reclaim their lives.
SUMMARY:
Responsible for the preparation of food in accordance with current guidelines, regulations, and established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Food Services Director to ensure that quality food service is provided at all times. Have knowledge of Non-profit food service programs. Be able to manage volunteers as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following: Opens up the kitchen Assists the Kitchen Manager with preparing the meal of the day Preps food for the day's meal. Guides and directs the daily volunteers with their tasks to work on for that day's meal Sets up the daily cart of items for the 50 snack bags for the to-go meals: drink, fruit, salty snack, and sweet snack. Slices the cold cuts for sandwiches and thoroughly cleans the slicing machine when finished. Is instrumental in utilizing all of our rescued food and incorporates these food items into our menus. Assists the Kitchen Manager in making up the menus for the following week. Fills in for the Kitchen Manager when she is on vacation or out sick. Portions and serves food items during meal service according to the menu in an attractive and appetizing manner. Monitors servings to ensure that foods are being served as mandated by the Department of Health. Stores all food items and supplies according to procedure, in a safe and sanitary manner. Operates, cleans, and sanitizes equipment and work surfaces according to procedures in a safe, sanitary manner. Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly work environment. Performs other duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager. Maintains all Food Service documents. Food and equipment temperatures, proper food handling, and all sanitation regulations. Must possess a ServSafe certificate or Food Service Managers Certification. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Manage donations. Ability to use and operate the following equipment: slicer, oven, large blender, can opener, microwave, dishwasher, and any other equipment necessary to prepare meals.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must possess a ServSafe certificate or a Food Service Manager's Certification. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Work with supervisors, volunteers, and facility staff to perform duties. Manage and organize donations and puts away in appropriate places. Observe proper safety and sanitary techniques. Work hours are scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment. Will be able to cover the kitchen on the Kitchen Manager's days off. Ability to use and operate the following equipment: slicer, oven, grill, large blender, steam tables, coffee machine, can opener, microwave oven, robot coupe, dish machine, and any other equipment necessary to prepare meals.
