Job Description

Job Overview The Food Service Worker is responsible for supporting the daily food service operations of the Residential Programs (e.g., Juvenile Stabilization Center, Youth Residential Centers II, and Qualified Residential Treatment Placement) at O'Connell Children's Shelter. This position prepares, serves, and stores meals and snacks in accordance with established menus, food safety and sanitation standards, nutritional requirements, dietary needs, and O'Connell Children's Shelter (OCS) policies and procedures. Flexibility in schedule of Mon - Fri 10:00 am to 6:00 pm OR Mon - Thursday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Responsibilities Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to established menus, recipes, portion sizes, dietary requirements, and meal schedules. Ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely manner. Accommodate documented food allergies, special diets, and other approved dietary restrictions. Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen, dining, food preparation, and food storage areas. Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, and health requirements. Properly clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, cookware, equipment, and food preparation surfaces. Properly label, date, store, and rotate food using appropriate FIFO (first-in, first-out) practices. Monitor and document food temperatures as required. Monitor expiration dates and remove expired or compromised food products. Monitor food and supply inventories and communicate shortages or anticipated needs to the appropriate supervisor. Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food and kitchen supplies. Maintain required food service records, logs, and documentation. Follow established procedures for preventing cross-contamination and foodborne illness. Report food safety concerns, equipment problems, pest concerns, injuries, or other safety concerns promptly. Interact with youth in a professional, respectful, and trauma-informed manner. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with youth at all times. Support the structured daily routine and behavioral expectations of the JSC during meal service while reinforcing a calm, predictable, and trauma-informed environment. Support behavioral health and trauma-informed program practices during meal service by promoting respectful interactions, predictability, appropriate choices, and positive youth engagement. Follow all JSC safety, security, supervision, and behavioral management procedures. Maintain confidentiality regarding youth and program information. Work collaboratively with residential, behavioral health, nursing, administrative, and other OCS staff. Participate in required inspections, audits, quality improvement activities, and training. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in food service, cafeteria, restaurant, institutional food service, healthcare, school, residential, or similar settings. Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Ability to work effectively as part of a residential program team. Ability to successfully complete required OCS background checks and employment requirements. Ability to complete all required OCS and JSC training. Ability to comply with applicable food safety, sanitation, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
Pay:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
