The Community Food Program & Pantry Assistant (CFPPA) reports directly to the Director of Purchasing and Logistics. The CFPPA is part of all community food and pantry operations, interacting with clients and volunteers regularly. The FPPA supports both food pantry operations and the Community Food Program. The Community Food Program brings food to the places people live and congregate in collaboration with community partners. The CFPPA will provide hands-on support to help prepare for and execute food distributions both at A Place To Turn and at community sites. Given current demographics of clients who use the food pantry the CFPPA needs to speak English and Spanish and/or Portuguese fluently. This is a physical role that requires lifting boxes of food and being on your feet, especially during mobile markets, pantry set-up and client distribution hours.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Pantry Operations Assist with all necessary duties to ensure smooth pantry distributions, including stocking shelves, preparing food for distribution, shopping with clients, managing shopping carts and cardboard, and restocking during distribution. Assist with unloading, sorting, organizing, and storing food donations and deliveries. Receive and pick up donations and orders. Assist with preparing the pantry, produce area, and kitchen for distribution. Assist with food pickups, including Greater Boston Food Bank. Assist with preparing diapers and other items for distribution as needed. Serve as back-up for client registration. Community Food Program Work closely with the Community Food Program Director to prepare for and execute mobile markets and other community food distributions. Prepare, pack, load, and unload the agency truck for mobile markets and grocery deliveries. Drive the agency van and truck to food pickups, partner sites, and community distributions as needed. Assist with mobile market setup, distribution, restocking, breakdown, and unloading. Help organize and maintain food, equipment, and supplies used for mobile markets and other community distributions. Assist with grocery deliveries and other Community Food Program activities as needed. Skills and Attributes Bi-lingual in English and Spanish and/or Portuguese. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Valid driver's license and willingness to drive agency van and truck. Ability to work some weekend and evening hours. Passion for working to solve food insecurity. Strong interpersonal skills and experience working collaboratively. Reliable, organized and comfortable working in a fast-paced, physical environment.
