Varies with the event calendar; evenings, weekends, and holidays required About Us Zerbo's Market & Bistro combines a neighborhood market with a scratch-cooking bistro. Our events team brings that same food and hospitality to private parties, corporate functions, showers, rehearsal dinners, and catered gatherings. We're looking for a Banquet Captain who can lead a floor, keep events on schedule, and make every guest feel well taken care of. Position Summary The Banquet Captain runs the floor during each event. You will direct the banquet servers and bartenders, work closely with the kitchen on timing, and serve as the on-site contact for the host. You make sure every detail on the Banquet Event Order (BEO) happens as planned, from setup through breakdown. Key Responsibilities Event preparation Review BEOs, floor plans, and timelines before each event, and clarify open questions with the events manager. Oversee room setup, including tables, linens, place settings, buffet and station layout, décor, and AV needs. Hold a pre-shift meeting to assign sections, go over the menu, allergens, and special requests, and set service standards. Event execution Greet the host on arrival and act as their main contact throughout the event. Direct service staff during plated, buffet, family-style, and station service. Coordinate course timing with the kitchen and pace service to fit the event's flow, including toasts, speeches, and presentations. Handle guest requests, dietary needs, and problems quickly and calmly. Monitor bar service and make sure alcohol is served responsibly and in line with state law. Wrap-up and administration Supervise breakdown, cleaning, and storage of equipment, rentals, and leftover product. Confirm final guest counts, added charges, and bar tabs for accurate billing. Complete event reports that cover issues, feedback, and staff performance. Track inventory of banquet china, glassware, linens, and supplies, and report shortages or damage. Team leadership Train new banquet servers on Zerbo's service standards. Coach staff during events and give feedback to management. Model professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude. Qualifications Required 2+ years of banquet, catering, or fine-dining service experience, including at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role. Solid knowledge of plated, buffet, and family-style service. Clear communication and the ability to stay composed under pressure. Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Able to stand and walk for long shifts and to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be 18+ (21+ if overseeing alcohol service, depending on state rules). Preferred Alcohol-service certification (such as TIPS or ServSafe Alcohol). ServSafe Food Handler or Manager certification. Experience with weddings and large private events. Knowledge of wine and beverage service. Bilingual skills are a plus.
Pay:
$20.00 - $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 45.0 - 55.0 per week
