About Rosa Campus Cafe:
Our Wayne State location lives inside the WSU Campus Bookstore in Midtown Detroit, serving students, faculty, and the surrounding community. It's a fast, friendly, daytime cafe, open Monday through Friday, where great coffee and warm hospitality keep the campus running.Position Overview:
We're hiring a part-time Assistant Manager to help run our Wayne State location. You'll share the management of the cafe with a counterpart Assistant Manager (together you cover the week), and you'll spend part of your time leading shifts and part of it on the bar as a barista. This is a hands-on, floor-first role for someone who takes pride in the craft and likes owning the details.What You'll Do:
- Run shifts as manager-on-duty: open and close to the checklists, keep the space guest-ready, and hold shift authority
- Work the bar as a barista: craft drinks to Rosa's standards and keep the line moving during rushes
- Own the money on your shifts: count the drawer in and out to the $150 bank, make the cash drop, and complete the shift envelope
- Coordinate with your Assistant Manager counterpart on coverage, handoffs, stocking, and open items so nothing falls through the cracks
- Train and support baristas: lead with compassion and high standards, correct privately and recognize publicly
- Keep inventory and the self-serve market stocked; help with monthly counts and deliveries
- Support Rosa events and keep the vibe warm and on-brand
What We're Looking For:
- Prior cafe or barista experience; some shift-lead or supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Accurate with cash and the daily close; reliable and a true self-starter
- Comfortable coaching a team and having hard conversations kindly
- Open availability across the week including some opens, closes, and weekends
- Must be 18+; food-handler / TIPS certification where applicable
Pay & Schedule:
- $17 per hour plus tips
- Part-time, hourly, non-exempt (job-share with a second Assistant Manager)
- Approximately 20-25 hours per week, with a mix of opening and closing shifts
