About the Role The Food Service Worker at Rockford Elementary School plays a vital role in ensuring that students receive nutritious and safely prepared meals in a welcoming environment. This position is responsible for the preparation, serving, and cleanup of food items in accordance with established health and safety standards. The role requires close collaboration with kitchen staff and school personnel to maintain efficient meal service operations during school hours. The Food Service Worker contributes to promoting healthy eating habits among children by providing appealing and well-balanced meal options. Ultimately, this position supports the overall well-being and academic success of students by delivering quality food service in a timely and hygienic manner. Job Responsibilities Prepare and serve meals and snacks to students and staff following established menus and portion guidelines. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation and serving areas in compliance with health regulations. Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to food safety protocols. Assist in receiving, storing, and organizing food supplies to ensure freshness and proper inventory management. Engage courteously with students and staff, addressing any dietary needs or concerns as appropriate. Minimum Qualifications Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English. Demonstrated manual dexterity to handle food preparation and serving tasks. Capability to stand for extended periods during meal service times. Knowledge of and commitment to proper sanitization and food safety practices. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working in a food service or cafeteria environment. Basic knowledge of nutrition and dietary restrictions relevant to school-aged children. Certification in food handling or safety (e.g., ServSafe). Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment. Skills The required skills such as understanding and speaking English are essential for clear communication with team members and students, ensuring smooth daily operations. Manual dexterity is critical for efficiently preparing and serving food while maintaining quality standards. The ability to stand for long periods supports the physical demands of meal service during busy school hours. Sanitization skills are applied continuously to uphold health and safety regulations, preventing contamination and ensuring a safe dining environment. Preferred skills like food safety certification and knowledge of nutrition enhance the worker's ability to contribute to a healthy school meal program and respond effectively to dietary needs.
