Job Description

Mechanicville City School District is seeking dependable, energetic, and community-minded individuals to join our Food Service Department as a Substitute Food Service Helper . This is an ideal role for parents, retirees, college students, or anyone seeking a flexible schedule that matches the public school calendar- no nights, weekends, or holidays required!
Key Responsibilities Food Preparation:
Assist in basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, wrapping, and portioning menu items.
Meal Service:
Serve nutritious, balanced breakfast and lunch meals to students and staff in a friendly, welcoming environment.
Kitchen Maintenance & Sanitation:
Wash dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils; clean and sanitize prep counters, serving lines, and dining area tables. POS /
Register Operation:
Operate the cafeteria Point of Sale (POS) register during meal service times (training provided).
Inventory & Restocking:
Help unload, stock, and organize food supplies and paper goods according to food safety guidelines.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all health, hygiene, and safety guidelines (HACCP) established by NYS and local health departments.
Job Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
Clearance:
Must obtain NYS Education Department (NYSED) Fingerprint Clearance prior to employment.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
Skills:
Basic math skills for food portioning and cashiering; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
