Job Description

Eastern Staffing & Recruiting is looking for a Part-Time Temporary Food Service Worker who would provide hands-on support to the Sous Chef in the preparation and execution of daily kitchen operations. This position serves as a dependable right-hand resource to the Sous Chef, assisting wherever needed to ensure food is prepared safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Work closely with the Sous Chef to support daily food preparation, production, and kitchen operations. Assist with preparing, cooking, portioning, packaging, and staging food as directed. Anticipate kitchen needs and proactively assist the Sous Chef and team to keep production moving efficiently. Follow established recipes, production instructions, food-handling procedures, and quality standards. Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, temperature control, and proper food-storage requirements. Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen and food preparation environment. Communicate effectively with the Sous Chef and other team members regarding production needs, priorities, challenges, and completion of assigned tasks. Work alongside volunteers with varying levels of kitchen experience and provide patient, respectful guidance when needed. Assist volunteers in understanding assigned kitchen tasks, safe food-handling practices, and appropriate kitchen procedures. Demonstrate flexibility and assist with changing priorities or additional kitchen needs as they arise. Identify potential issues or needs and communicate them promptly to the Sous Chef. Properly use and care for kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies. Assist with receiving, organizing, rotating, and storing food and kitchen supplies as needed. Perform cleaning and sanitation duties throughout the shift and assist with maintaining an orderly workspace. Provide additional hands-on support to the Sous Chef as needed to ensure successful daily kitchen operations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a fast-paced commercial, institutional, restaurant, catering, or similar kitchen environment . Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, proper food handling, and kitchen safety standards. Ability to work efficiently and independently with limited supervision. Strong reliability, dependability, and punctuality. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and identify what needs to be done without waiting for continuous direction. Strong verbal communication and teamwork skills. Ability to communicate instructions clearly and respectfully. Patience and comfort working alongside and supporting volunteers with varying levels of kitchen experience. Ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and established kitchen procedures. ServSafe certification or similar food-safety training preferred. The estimated hourly salary range for this position is $19.50 per hour, though a candidate's salary will be determined on a range of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications and experience.
