Part-Time, Year-Round Job Summary:

The Food Service Worker supports food and beverage operations across The Monument's venues, including concession stands, banquet spaces, and other service areas. This position assists with preparing and serving food, handling transactions, stocking supplies, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Work assignments vary based on event schedules and may include supporting multiple service areas in a single shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Food Service Worker I:

Greet customers and provide friendly, efficient service. Complete final assembly of orders and serve food and beverages according to established procedures. Prepare, handle, and store food and beverages following safety and sanitation guidelines. Operate cash registers and POS systems accurately and follow cash-handling procedures. Assist with setup and breakdown of food service areas, including stocking supplies and preparing equipment. Maintain cleanliness of workstations, service areas, and customer areas throughout the shift. Restock food, beverage, and supply inventories as needed. Follow opening, operating, and closing procedures as directed. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to support smooth event operations.

Food Service Worker II:

Perform all duties of Food Service Worker I. Assist in training and orienting new employees and volunteers. Monitor food quality and service standards during events. Help maintain inventory levels and notify leadership of shortages. Resolve routine customer concerns professionally and escalate issues when needed. Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements. Support stand operations during high-volume or complex events, providing guidance to peers. Assist supervisors with operational needs such as restocking coordination, workflow adjustments, and stand readiness.

Qualifications:

Food Service Worker I:

Must be 14 years of age or older required. Previous food service or customer service experience preferred. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules. (compliant with South Dakota Labor Laws) Ability to follow instructions and established procedures. Strong customer service skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with limited supervision.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Food Service Worker II:

Must meet all qualifications of Food Service Worker I. Must be 16 years of age or older required. Demonstrated ability to guide peers, support workflow, and assist with training. Ability to help orient new employees and volunteers on procedures and standards. Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, inventory awareness, and service standards. Ability to resolve routine customer concerns professionally and escalate issues appropriately. Comfortable supporting operations during busy and complex events and adjusting to changing needs. Clear, professional communication with leaders, coworkers, and volunteers.

Food Handler certification, ServSafe or similar preferred.

Work Environment:

Duties are performed in fast-paced work environment (bar, banquet, and concession areas) both indoor and outside with exposure to high levels of noise and large crowds. Standing and walking for long periods of time, including navigating stairs or ramps. Occasional contact with outdoor elements near entrances or exterior areas. Exposure to flashing lights, amplified sound, theatrical effects, and pyrotechnics during certain performances or events. Ability to consistently lift up to 30 lbs.
