The Banquet Captain is responsible for leading the banquet and bar team and ensuring the successful operational execution of weddings and special events at Madera Estates. This hands-on leadership position supervises banquet servers, bartenders, and barbacks while overseeing event setup, service, facility standards, and breakdown. Working closely with the Wedding Coordinator and Venue Director, the Banquet Captain is expected to anticipate needs, solve problems quickly, and ensure each event is executed safely, efficiently, and with exceptional hospitality.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Review event details, timelines, layouts, bar requirements, and special instructions prior to each event. Lead banquet staff in the proper setup and breakdown of ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and bar areas. Inspect event spaces before guest arrival to ensure they are clean, organized, safe, and event-ready. Directly supervise banquet servers, bartenders, and barbacks throughout the event. Conduct pre-event staff meetings and assign positions, responsibilities, breaks, and closing duties. Ensure staff members are punctual, properly dressed, prepared, and meeting Madera Estates' service standards. Maintain consistent communication with the Wedding Coordinator, catering team, bar staff, banquet staff, and management. Monitor the event timeline and proactively prepare the team for upcoming transitions and service needs. Maintain a visible presence throughout the event and respond promptly to guest needs, operational issues, and last-minute changes. Oversee bar operations and ensure compliance with Madera Estates policies and TABC requirements. Monitor event spaces, restrooms, kitchen/service areas, storage areas, and exterior guest areas for cleanliness, safety, and operational concerns. Respond appropriately to facility issues, emergencies, or unexpected circumstances according to established venue procedures. Lead end-of-night breakdown and ensure all event spaces, bars, service areas, and equipment are properly cleaned and secured. Complete required event documentation, inventory, incident reports, and closing procedures. Lead by example and assist with setup, service, cleanup, and other event duties as needed. Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 21 years of age High School diploma or equivalent required Current TABC Certification required Previous banquet, hospitality, restaurant, wedding, or event experience required Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors Must have reliable transportation Must be available primarily evenings and weekends as event schedules require
