Join our team at the El Valle Detention Facility in Raymondville, Texas.
Position Summary:
Reports to the food service manager. Directly supervises the cook II detainee leads and direct the work of detainees assigned to the food service area. Responsible for the preparation of facility meals in accordance with pre-planned menus, in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and customer directives.
Essential Functions:
1. Supervise and monitor work of cooks and food service workers, which includes long periods of walking and standing 2. Prepare and cook quantity of food required according to menu and number of detainees. 3. Maintain kitchen equipment in orderly workable condition. Ensure work area is safe, clean and sanitary at all times. 4. Exercise judgement and use discretion when responding to incidents and determine whether to intervene or call for security staff. 5. Prepare foods as directed for special facility functions and visitors. 6. Assist in cleaning kitchen work areas following each meal. 7. Direct the work of detainees assigned to the food service area. 8. Maintain the count and control of knives and other controlled kitchen tools. Provide a count of all control items at the beginning and end of each shift. Responsible for the security of the food service area. 9. Requires the pushing and pulling of food carts. 10. Regular attendance is required. 11. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. 12. Maintain accountability of staff, detainees and property; adhere to safety practices. It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her scope of work as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent, food service training, and two (2) years of food service experience required. Valid food handler's permit required, if required by the State of Texas. Must successfully complete required pre service training. Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
