Position Summary The Butcher Block Supervisor supports the daily operation of the butcher block and meat service area by providing excellent customer service, maintaining product quality and freshness, and helping coordinate department activities. This role works alongside associates to ensure products are properly prepared, displayed, stocked, and handled according to food safety and sanitation standards. Key Responsibilities Provide friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable customer service. Assist customers with product selections, special requests, and general questions. Support the daily operation of the butcher block and meat service area. Prepare, package, weigh, label, and display products according to established procedures. Maintain attractive, clean, and well-stocked service cases and displays. Monitor product quality, freshness, dates, and overall condition. Rotate merchandise properly and remove expired, damaged, or unsellable products as appropriate. Maintain product availability and identify out-of-stocks, overstocks, and inventory concerns. Ensure pricing, labeling, and merchandising standards are followed accurately. Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing department merchandise. Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary work areas, equipment, coolers, and storage areas. Monitor refrigeration conditions and promptly report temperature or equipment concerns. Follow proper procedures for food handling, sanitation, storage, and prevention of cross-contamination. Provide direction, coaching, and support to associates working in the department. Assist with training associates on customer service, product handling, sanitation, and department procedures. Help minimize product loss and support inventory control procedures. Communicate inventory, staffing, equipment, and operational concerns to store leadership. Follow company policies, safety standards, security procedures, and applicable food safety requirements. Assist with additional duties as business needs require. Leadership Expectations Lead by example and consistently demonstrate excellent customer service. Provide clear direction and communicate department priorities. Work alongside associates to ensure daily responsibilities are completed. Coach associates respectfully and reinforce department standards. Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment. Monitor department conditions and address operational concerns promptly. Reinforce proper food handling, sanitation, stocking, rotation, and merchandising procedures. Communicate significant department issues or incomplete work to store leadership. Qualifications Strong customer service and communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Knowledge of meat products, food handling, or fresh department operations is preferred. Ability to provide direction and support to other associates. Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality and freshness. Ability to prioritize workloads and manage multiple responsibilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Dependable and able to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment. Previous meat department, butcher block, fresh foods, or retail experience is preferred. Physical and Scheduling Requirements Ability to work in refrigerated environments for extended periods. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to frequently bend, reach, push, pull, lift, carry, and handle merchandise. Ability to perform repetitive food preparation, stocking, and cleaning activities. Ability to safely use equipment and tools required for assigned duties. Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
