Job Description

at Bleecker & Greer in Rockport, Maine, United States Job Description Butcher's Assistant at Bleecker and Greer This is an entry level position for someone interested in pursuing or furthering a career in the fields of culinary arts, butchery, and/or sustainable agriculture. Bleecker and Greer is a nose to tail whole animal butcher shop and our commitment to the use of those ingredients informs all the decisions we make. We are equally passionate about practicing environmental sustainability and purchase our raw materials from as many local suppliers as possible. We are looking for someone who shares in that vision. Our butcher counter is a customer facing position that requires a positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to provide a superior customer experience. The successful candidate for the case assistant can expect to help set the butcher counter every morning, explain our ethics and processes, accurately describe various cuts of meat and how to prepare them, as well as assist in prepping and packaging our value added items. This position does not initially include active cutting but does offer the ability to get your foot in the door for an opportunity to learn from our experienced team. The position requires attention to detail as well as the ability to problem solve. Previous experience in either cooking, farming, or both is a plus. The business is open 7 days per week so working one weekend day is a must. We are open daily from 10am - 4pm so there are no late nights! A shift would typically be 8am-5pm(ish), or about 9 hours.
