Job Description
Join the team at Nitsches Meats and Deli — Shelby Township's original family butcher shop since 1976. Nitsches is a full-service butcher, deli, and bakery known for on-site custom butchering, choice beef, free-range Amish chicken, and homemade German sausages. We're neighbors, not a big-box store — and we're looking for a skilled, dependable Meat Cutter to join our counter and cutting room. What you'll do:
- Break down primal and sub-primal cuts of beef, pork, poultry, and lamb into retail and custom cuts
- Cut, trim, grind, and portion meat to order for customers at the counter
- Prepare and case fresh product, keeping the display full, rotated, and well presented
- Handle custom orders — roasts, steaks, sausage, and holiday and party requests — to each customer's specs
- Maintain strict food-safety and sanitation standards, including proper temperature control and equipment cleaning
- Deliver the friendly, personalized service that has kept our customers coming back for nearly 50 years What we're looking for:
- Prior experience as a meat cutter or butcher preferred — we'll consider a motivated apprentice with the right attitude
- Comfortable operating band saws, grinders, slicers, and knives safely
- Solid knowledge of cuts and basic meat-cutting technique
- Able to stand for long shifts, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in cold and refrigerated areas
- Reliable, team-oriented, and genuinely good with customers
- Food handler certification a plus, or willingness to obtain one Why work here:
- Family-owned, tight-knit crew — not a corporate grind
- Learn real butcher craft and custom cutting
- Employee discount on premium meats, deli, and bakery
- Consistent daytime hours
Schedule:
Monday through Saturdays; daytime shifts. Full-time preferred, part-time available. Come be part of a Shelby Township institution. Apply today, or stop by the shop at 52175 Van Dyke Ave. Nitsches Meats and Deli is an equal opportunity employer.Pay:
$18.00- $22.
