$67,000-$75,000 per year
Schedule:
Full-time; evenings, weekends, and holidays required We're looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join the leadership team of a busy, high-volume restaurant in San Diego. This is a hands-on kitchen leadership role for a chef who enjoys being in the middle of service, developing their team, maintaining high culinary standards, and helping create an organized, positive kitchen environment. The right person will be confident leading a team, comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen, and passionate about consistently putting out excellent food. You'll work closely with the Head Chef to keep the kitchen running smoothly and step into a leadership role whenever needed. What You'll Do Support the Head Chef with daily kitchen operations, menu execution, and recipe development Lead and supervise kitchen staff during prep and service Train, coach, and develop cooks to maintain consistent food quality and execution Ensure dishes meet established standards for flavor, quality, portioning, and presentation Help manage kitchen labor, scheduling, food costs, inventory, and waste Monitor product levels and assist with ordering and receiving Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen throughout the shift Ensure all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards are followed Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance feedback for kitchen team members Help create a positive, respectful, and team-oriented kitchen culture Take ownership of the kitchen during service and step into the Head Chef's responsibilities when needed Lead by example with a strong work ethic, professionalism, and attention to detail What We're Looking For Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Kitchen Supervisor, or similar culinary leadership role Strong knowledge of professional kitchen operations and cooking techniques Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate a kitchen team Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant Strong communication and organizational skills Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards Experience with inventory, food cost, labor management, and waste control Ability to stay calm, organized, and solutions-focused during busy services Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays Culinary education is a plus, but equivalent professional experience is valued What Makes You a Great Fit You're the kind of chef who can lead from the front.
