Food Preparation:
Expertly slicing, cutting, and filleting fish; preparing sushi rice, vegetables, and ingredients.
Sushi Assembly:
Assembling, rolling, and plating sushi, sashimi, and maki rolls to order.
Kitchen Maintenance:
Maintaining a clean and sanitized workspace, adhering strictly to food safety regulations.
Inventory Management:
Monitoring inventory levels, checking ingredient quality, and placing orders.
Customer Interaction:
Frequently working at an open sushi bar, providing friendly service, and taking special customer requests.
Requirements Knife Skills:
Proficiency in handling Japanese knives for precise, delicate cutting.
Culinary Experience:
Previous experience in a sushi bar or Asian restaurant is usually required.
Speed and Accuracy:
Ability to produce high-quality, consistent, and creative rolls under pressure.
Food Safety Knowledge:
Strict adherence to health regulations (often requires a food handler's card). Qualifications Experience in a sushi-rolling position (often 1-3+ years). Culinary school training is a plus, but not always required. Knowledge of various fish species and sushi types.
