Job Description
We are an authentic Japanese sushi omakase restaurant in Santa Clara seeking a Sushi Chef Helper / Sushi Prep Cook to join our kitchen team. This is an entry-to-intermediate level position designed for someone who has professional kitchen experience and wants to develop their skills in Japanese cuisine and sushi preparation. You will work closely with our Sushi Chefs and Executive Sushi Chef, assisting with daily preparation, ingredient handling, kitchen organization, and omakase service. Formal sushi training is not required but preferred . We are looking for someone dependable, hardworking, detail-oriented, and willing to learn. Responsibilities Assist Sushi Chefs with daily food preparation Prepare vegetables, garnishes, sauces, rice, and other ingredients Assist with basic fish and seafood preparation under chef supervision Portion and organize ingredients for omakase service Prepare and maintain mise en place before service Support the sushi bar and kitchen during service Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing ingredients Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep and kitchen areas Properly clean and maintain knives, cutting boards, equipment, and workstations Follow food safety, sanitation, and temperature-control procedures Help with opening and closing kitchen duties Work closely with the culinary team to maintain consistency and quality Qualifications Previous professional kitchen or prep cook experience preferred Sushi or Japanese restaurant experience is a plus, but not required Basic knife skills preferred Comfortable handling raw seafood and other fresh ingredients Ability to follow instructions and learn quickly Strong attention to detail and cleanliness Reliable and punctual Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen Able to stand for extended periods and perform normal kitchen lifting and prep duties Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team Genuine interest in Japanese cuisine and sushi What We Offer Competitive compensation based on experience Tips participation PTO and California sick leave Hands-on training in Japanese sushi and omakase preparation Opportunity to learn directly from experienced Japanese Sushi Chefs Opportunity for advancement into a Sushi Chef position Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates We are looking for someone who wants to learn, improve, and grow with our team . Pay:
