About Blackbelly Catering Blackbelly Catering is the off-site catering arm of Blackbelly Restaurant, Boulder's celebrated farm-to-table kitchen led by Top Chef winner Hosea Rosenberg. We bring the same commitment to locally sourced ingredients, craft, and hospitality to weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations throughout Colorado. We are looking for a talented, self-directed Catering Sous Chef to join our team and help lead events from the ground up. Role Summary The Catering Sous Chef is a senior culinary leader responsible for the end-to-end execution of off-site catering events — from initial planning through final breakdown. This role supports the catering Head Chef, managing all event logistics including driving the company vehicle, coordinating culinary staff on-site, and developing and executing menus independently when the Head Chef is unavailable. What You'll Do Lead catering events independently from inception through end-of-day breakdown in the Head Chef's absence Serve as the on-site culinary authority for timing, plating, and service execution Drive the company catering vehicle to and from event sites; manage equipment loading, transport, setup, and breakdown Create, adapt, and execute menus independently while maintaining Blackbelly's culinary identity and standards Coordinate with event staff and front-of-house teams for seamless, guest-ready execution Lead, supervise, and mentor culinary staff on-site Enforce recipe adherence, portion control, and food safety standards at every event Assist with food cost management, inventory, and post-event reporting Accommodate special dietary needs, VIP requests, and last-minute changes with professionalism What We're Looking For 2+ years of culinary leadership experience, preferably in catering or high-volume environments Valid Colorado driver's license and a clean driving record (required — role involves driving company vehicle) Ability to develop and execute menus independently Strong organizational skills and calm under pressure Current Food Handler's Certification or ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain) Ability to stand and move for 8-10+ hours, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in varied outdoor and indoor environments Compensation & Benefits Base Pay $65,000-$75,000 per year This salary range reflects our good-faith estimate for this role at the time of posting, based on experience, qualifications, and the scope of responsibilities.
