Sous Chef - Senior Living Steamboat Springs, Colorado $5,000 Sign-On Bonus | Relocation Assistance Available Overview We are seeking an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join an established culinary team in a premier senior living community in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This is an opportunity for a culinary professional with high-end restaurant, resort, hotel, private club, or senior living experience who wants to bring their skills into a hospitality-focused environment where food, service, and resident experience truly matter. Working alongside the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef will help lead an existing culinary team, uphold established high culinary standards, and continue moving the dining program forward. We are looking for someone who can balance strong culinary execution with leadership, coaching, organization, food safety, creativity, and resident engagement . This is more than a production position. The Sous Chef will be a visible culinary leader who develops the team, engages with residents, and helps create programming and experiences that keep the dining program fresh, relevant, and exciting. For the right candidate, relocation assistance is available, along with a $5,000 sign-on bonus. Responsibilities Partner with the Executive Chef to lead daily culinary operations and maintain established standards for food quality, flavor, presentation, and consistency. Remain hands-on in food preparation, cooking, plating, and service while setting the culinary standard for the team. Lead, coach, train, and develop an existing culinary team with a focus on technique, consistency, accountability, and professional growth. Help create a kitchen culture built around teamwork, organization, pride, and culinary excellence. Maintain high standards for plate presentation, proper cooking techniques, seasoning, production, and overall execution. Support menu development and bring creative ideas that complement the existing culinary program and resident preferences. Drive culinary programming including chef demonstrations, action stations, themed dining experiences, seasonal features, tastings, special events, and resident-focused programs. Be a visible presence with residents, actively seeking feedback and building relationships that help shape the dining experience. Partner with the Executive Chef and community teams on celebrations, special events, catering, and other hospitality experiences. Maintain an exceptionally clean, organized, and well-run kitchen. Champion food safety and sanitation standards, including proper food handling, temperature controls, labeling, storage, production documentation, and regulatory compliance. Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory management, production planning, and waste reduction. Ensure the culinary team is properly prepared for service through strong planning, communication, and organization. Step into leadership responsibilities in the Executive Chef's absence and ensure standards and expectations remain consistent. Qualifications Strong professional culinary background with experience in fine dining, upscale restaurants, resorts, hotels, private clubs, or high-end senior living . Previous Sous Chef, Chef de Cuisine, Lead Cook, or comparable culinary leadership experience preferred. Strong culinary fundamentals with demonstrated skill in cooking techniques, scratch preparation, flavor development, and plate presentation. Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop culinary team members while maintaining accountability and high standards. Passion for hospitality and creating memorable dining experiences. Comfortable interacting directly with residents and incorporating their feedback into the culinary program. Creative mindset with an interest in developing culinary programming and special dining experiences. Highly organized with the ability to plan ahead, prioritize, and maintain consistency in a busy kitchen environment. Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, proper food handling, and kitchen safety. Experience with production planning, ordering, inventory management, and waste control. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable using computers and foodservice technology for ordering, production, communication, and administrative responsibilities. ServSafe certification preferred or ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe.
