Full job description Part-Time Chef/Cook Memorial House of the Episcopal Church Position Summary The Memorial House of the Episcopal Church is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Part-Time Chef/Cook to provide nutritious, delicious meals for retreat guests. This individual plays an important role in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that supports rest, fellowship, and spiritual renewal. The ideal candidate enjoys cooking, takes pride in food presentation, and is committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen. Essential Responsibilities Prepare and serve meals for overnight guests, retreat groups, clergy, and special events. Plan menus that are nutritious, balanced, and accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and special requests. Ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely, professional, and welcoming manner. Maintain the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness in accordance with health department regulations. Clean and sanitize the kitchen, dining areas, equipment, and food storage spaces after each meal service. Monitor food inventory and assist with ordering supplies to maintain appropriate stock levels. Properly receive, label, store, and rotate food using First In, First Out (FIFO) practices. Minimize food waste while maintaining quality and portion consistency. Work cooperatively with Memorial House staff to support guest schedules and retreat programming. Assist with special events, receptions, and seasonal gatherings as needed. Qualifications Previous cooking or chef experience in hospitality, catering, institutional, or restaurant settings preferred. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices; ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Ability to prepare meals for both small and larger groups. Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Dependable, flexible, and committed to providing exceptional hospitality. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Ability to bend, reach, and perform routine kitchen duties safely. Schedule Part-time, with flexible hours based on retreat reservations and guest occupancy. Weekend, holiday, and occasional evening availability is required. Pay:
