We are seeking a passionate Chef to Assist our Lead Chef in our Prepared Foods Department at The Boys Farmers Market. This role combines hands-on culinary craftsmanship with assisting leadership with kitchen management responsibilities. Job Summary The Assistant Chef will help our Lead Chef manage the day-to-day operations of the Prepared Foods kitchen, ensuring exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation. Responsibilities Assist kitchen operations within the Prepared Foods Department, ensuring smooth workflow and timely production Partner with lead chef on executing seasonal menus that highlight fresh, locally sourced ingredients Help enforce strict food safety compliance, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices in accordance with local and state health codes Work with leadership to manage inventory and portion control to minimize waste and control food costs Monitor kitchen equipment maintenance and cleanliness to ensure a safe working environment Maintain food safety compliance Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of professional culinary experience preferably in retail grocery environment Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance standards (e.g., ServSafe certification or equivalent) Excellent organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs as needed
