ABOUT US
The West End is an independently owned, year-round restaurant and boutique event venue in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Since opening in 2017, we have built a reputation for thoughtful food and beverage, warm hospitality, and memorable experiences in an elevated yet welcoming setting. We are seeking an experienced Executive Chef to lead our culinary program and help shape its next chapter.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a hands-on leadership position for a chef who brings creativity, consistency, strong business judgment, and a genuine commitment to developing a successful team. The Executive Chef will oversee all aspects of culinary operations, from menu development and daily service to weddings and private events. The right candidate will be equally comfortable creating an exciting seasonal menu, managing food and labor costs, mentoring kitchen staff, and ensuring that every dish meets our standards. This role is ideal for an established culinary leader who wants to make a meaningful impact at an independent, owner-operated restaurant.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead all day-to-day culinary operations Develop and execute seasonal menus for dinner, brunch, weddings, and private events Maintain exceptional standards for food quality, presentation, consistency, and timing Recruit, train, schedule, mentor, and retain a professional culinary team Create a respectful, accountable, and collaborative kitchen culture Manage food and labor costs while protecting quality and the guest experience Oversee purchasing, vendor relationships, inventory, receiving, and waste reduction Establish and maintain standardized recipes, preparation procedures, and portion controls Ensure smooth coordination between the kitchen, front-of-house team, events team, and ownership Maintain the highest standards for cleanliness, sanitation, food safety, and regulatory compliance Plan and execute culinary service for weddings, private parties, and other high-volume events Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability, and the overall culinary program Lead by example and remain actively engaged during service
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Our ideal candidate is: A confident, experienced culinary leader with Executive Chef, Chef de Cuisine, or comparable leadership experience Creative and passionate about developing thoughtful, seasonally inspired food Operationally strong, organized, and financially disciplined Experienced in both à la carte dining and private-event execution Skilled at building systems and maintaining consistency across multiple types of service A clear, respectful communicator who values collaboration Calm and solutions-oriented in a fast-paced environment Committed to coaching, developing, and retaining a strong team Comfortable working closely with hands-on ownership Interested in becoming part of a year-round Cape Cod restaurant and community
QUALIFICATIONS
At least five years of progressive culinary leadership experience preferred Proven experience managing food costs, labor, purchasing, inventory, and kitchen systems Experience developing menus and standardized recipes Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation requirements Experience with weddings, catering, banquets, or private events strongly preferred Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as required Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience ServSafe Manager certification or ability to obtain certification
