Job Description

The Chef de Cuisine will work closely with our Executive Chef and management team and will take an active leadership role in the day-to-day operation of the kitchen. This is a hands-on position. We are looking for someone who can lead from the line when necessary, develop the team, maintain high culinary standards, and understand the financial side of running a successful restaurant. Responsibilities Lead and manage daily kitchen operations Maintain consistency, quality, presentation, and portion standards Train, mentor, and develop sous chefs, line cooks, prep cooks, and culinary staff Maintain strong organization and accountability throughout the BOH Assist with menu development, seasonal changes, specials, and new dishes Manage food cost, purchasing, inventory, waste, and portion control Monitor kitchen labor and scheduling while maintaining proper staffing levels Work closely with the Executive Chef and restaurant management team Maintain excellent sanitation, food safety, and kitchen cleanliness standards Ensure proper prep levels and execution for high-volume services Build a positive kitchen culture based on professionalism, teamwork, respect, and accountability Maintain strong relationships with vendors and ensure product quality and consistency Help continuously improve systems, organization, efficiency, and overall kitchen performance What We're Looking For Previous experience as a Chef de Cuisine, Executive Sous Chef, Executive Chef, or similar culinary leadership position Strong background in high-volume, upscale or polished-casual restaurants Excellent culinary fundamentals and attention to detail Strong leadership and communication skills Ability to manage and motivate a diverse kitchen team Understanding of food cost, labor management, inventory, purchasing, and restaurant financials Ability to remain organized and composed during busy services Passion for hospitality and creating great food A hands-on mentality and willingness to lead by example What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience Opportunity for performance-based compensation Benefits Paid time off Dining benefits Opportunity for growth within The Standard Hospitality Group A strong, established restaurant group with multiple high-volume concepts on Long Island The opportunity to have a meaningful voice in the culinary direction of the restaurant About The James The James is a modern American restaurant in the heart of Babylon Village, combining an energetic dining room with a serious commitment to food, beverage, and hospitality.
