Job Description
Who we are:
Alma is Portland s first elevated Balkan all-you-can-enjoy dining experience. We've been recognized by Eater PDX as one of Portland's best new restaurants and have earned a place on Eater PDX's list of the 38 Most Essential Restaurants.
Our mission is simple: to bring the spirit of a huge Balkan dinner party to the Pacific Northwest. We want our dining room to be full of energy, conversation, shared plates, and guests constantly reaching for the next dish, while our kitchen works together to put out some of the best Balkan food this coast has ever seen.
Our menu is built around fun, thoughtful dishes that celebrate our Balkan heritage, as well as the recipes, traditions, and dinner parties I grew up with. Alma is deeply personal to me, and the restaurant is an extension of the food, hospitality, and sense of community that shaped my childhood.
We believe a great kitchen should work hard, hold itself to a high standard, and still have fun doing it. We joke, we laugh, we push each other, and we take pride in what we put on every plate. We believe in working as a team, taking responsibility for our roles, and executing at the highest level possible.
There is no room for ego or negativity at Alma only respect, accountability, collaboration, and a genuine passion for great food and great company.
We're attempting to create something that hasn't been done before, and we believe we're on the path to building something truly special. We re looking for people who share that same passion, work ethic, curiosity, and belief in what Alma can become.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead, train, and mentor kitchen staff to ensure consistent, high-quality food preparation and service.
Collaborate with the ownership team on menu development, seasonal updates, and specials.
Maintain cost controls through effective ordering, inventory management, and waste reduction.
Enforce food safety, sanitation, and health standards in compliance with local regulations.
Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative kitchen culture. Ensure that we always stay close to our goals of being a teaching kitchen and ensure that stays as key point of our culture. Source and maintain strong relationships with purveyors and local producers.
Ensure smooth communication between kitchen and front-of-house teams.
Uphold the restaurant s brand identity through presentation, flavor, and guest experience.
If you're someone who wants to work hard, have fun, grow with a team, and be part of building something meaningful, we'd love to have you be part of the dream.
