YOUR PURPOSE IN CREATING SOLUTIONS
Residential Aides (RAs) provide direct support services to residents within DHS and EHP programs, including individuals and families receiving services through DHS and/or
HRA/HASA.
RAs play a critical role in fostering a safe, respectful, and structured environment that promotes stability and wellbeing for all residents.
HOW YOU'LL DRIVE SOLUTIONS
Conducts hourly rounds, wellness checks, and routine inspections of resident rooms, bed areas, lockers, and common spaces. Supports a safe and respectful environment for residents, staff, and visitors by identifying and reporting concerns promptly. Orients new residents upon intake and assists with room or bed assignments. Monitors and documents all residents, staff, and visitors entering and exiting the facility, inclusive of the logbook, sign in/out sheets, and shift reports. Maintains accurate records, including census reports, facility logs, and daily activity documentation, and, in conjunction with operations, ensures that accurate data is transmitted to leadership/stakeholders. Prepares and submits shift reports and required program documentation at the end of each shift, including notifying appropriate program staff of any issues that may affect the health and safety of clients or staff. Completes intake-related documentation and supports admissions, transfers, and move-outs as directed. Assists with shelter bed or unit turnover to ensure readiness for new residents. Prepares and submits detailed incident reports, including documentation of observations, actions taken, and involvement of external responders when applicable (e.g., police, ambulance, fire department, ACS). Maintains professional front desk coverage, greeting visitors and responding to inquiries in a courteous manner. Ensures common areas, lobby, and building entrances remain orderly and free of loitering. Distributes mail and communications to residents and staff as needed. Supports emergency preparedness activities, including fire drills and evacuations, and completes required documentation. Enforces program guidelines, including curfew and room checks, in accordance with program policies. Attends staff meetings, training, and case conferences as required. Secures premises and personnel by patrolling the property and monitoring surveillance equipment and access points. Reports any security breaches, incidents, and other alarming behavior. Ensures the lobby and front of the building are always cleared. Prevents loitering in all areas within and surrounding the building. Performs additional duties as assigned by the RA Manager, Program Director, Senior Director, or designated leadership. EHP Accurately documents all shift activities, client engagements, and incidents in the facility logbook in a timely manner. Monitors and maintains surveillance of security cameras throughout the facility to ensure safety and compliance. Completes client intake documentation and assigns units for all new admissions within 24 hours of entry into the facility. Maintains accurate and up-to-date client engagement records in ClientTrack. Reports all facility vacancies and unit census data to the Compliance Department by 10:00 a.m. on the following business day. Conducts routine wellness checks to ensure client safety, assess needs, and maintain a secure and supportive environment. DHS Assists with operational tasks such as meal distribution, documentation filing, and other programmatic needs as directed. Records all daily census reports in the CARES system. Generates and submits nightly rosters to funding sources. Enforces curfew regulations and facilitates room checks and hourly rounds; facilitates the food distribution process, including receiving food deliveries, light food preparation (no cooking), serving food, and disposal of trash. Assists in the turnover of shelter beds and ensures readiness for occupancy by new clients as directed, inclusive of bag-and-tag and storage of client belongings. Implements all programmatic needs as necessary and outlined by the Director and funding sources. Attends staff meetings, case conferences, and supervisory and in-service training sessions. Monitors the security of the entire facility, implementing the surveillance system and rounds. Documents all residents, staff, and visitors entering and exiting the building; completes census forms, reports all incidents, and logs all events in the Facility Log Book. Facilitates resident new admissions and move-outs. Assists in coordinating and executing fire drills and emergency evacuations, including guiding residents to designated safe areas, ensuring full building clearance, and completing all required documentation and incident reports in accordance with established protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS BEHIND THE SOLUTIONS
High school diploma or GED required; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a residential shelter, social services, or housing setting required. Experience providing direct services to vulnerable populations strongly preferred. NYC Fire Guard for Shelters (F-02) required within the first 30 days of employment; Mandated Reporter Training and First Aid/CPR Certification required. NYS Guard License (8-Hour Pre Assignment and 16-Hour On-the-Job Training) and NYC Fire Safety Coordinator (F-24) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to document accurately and maintain organized records. Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred. Ability to remain calm and responsive in high-pressure or emergency situations. Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer systems
