Job Description
The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals that meet the dietary needs and physician-ordered diets of residents in a skilled nursing facility. This position ensures food safety, quality, and compliance with state and federal regulations while supporting resident satisfaction and overall well-being. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes, menus, and therapeutic diet requirements (e.g., diabetic, mechanical soft, pureed, low sodium). Follow portion control standards and ensure consistency in food quality and presentation. Ensure all food is prepared and served in compliance with sanitation, safety, and infection control guidelines. Maintain proper food temperatures and document temperature logs as required. Assist with food preparation for special events, holidays, and resident celebrations. Work collaboratively with the Dietary Manager, dietitian, and dietary staff to meet resident needs and preferences. Ensure kitchen cleanliness by following cleaning schedules and maintaining equipment. Label, store, and rotate food according to food safety standards. Report equipment issues, food shortages, or safety concerns promptly. Assist with receiving and storing food supplies as needed. Interact respectfully and professionally with residents, families, and staff.
