About the
Role:
As a Cook at UAB Medical West, your main responsibility will be to prepare and cook a variety of food items. You will work closely with the Head Chef to ensure that all meals are prepared to the highest standards and meet the specific dietary requirements of the facility. Your role will be crucial in providing nutritious and delicious meals to the employees and visitors of Medical West and UAB. You will have the opportunity to showcase your culinary skills and contribute to the overall well-being of the individuals in the facility.
Minimum Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Cook or similar role in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Ability to speak and read English fluently to understand recipes and communicate with the team. Excellent manual dexterity to handle kitchen tools and equipment with precision. Knowledge of food production techniques and the ability to follow recipes accurately. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods of time and perform tasks that require strength and agility. Ability to climb stairs and lift/move heavy objects as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Culinary degree or certification from a recognized institution. Experience in a high-volume kitchen environment. Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook a wide variety of food items according to recipes and dietary requirements. Collaborate with the Head Chef to plan and develop menus that meet the nutritional needs of the facility. Ensure that all food items are prepared and presented in a hygienic and visually appealing manner. Monitor and maintain inventory of food supplies and equipment, and place orders as needed. Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe and clean working environment.
Skills:
In this role, your food preparation and production skills will be put to use on a daily basis. You will need to have a strong understanding of different cooking techniques and be able to follow recipes accurately to ensure consistent and high-quality meals. Your manual dexterity will be essential in handling kitchen tools and equipment with precision. Additionally, your ability to communicate effectively in English will be important for understanding recipes and collaborating with the team. Finally, your physical stamina and strength will be crucial in standing for extended periods of time and performing tasks that require agility and the ability to lift and move heavy objects.
