Job Description
Job Overview The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents in a detox/residential treatment center located in Yuba City and Sutter County. This position plays an important role in supporting residents' overall health, structure, and daily routine by ensuring meals are prepared safely, served on time, and meet dietary, medical, and cultural needs. The Cook maintains a clean and organized kitchen environment in compliance with health and safety regulations and follows all facility policies and procedures. This role requires professionalism, consistency, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a supportive, recovery-focused setting. Responsibilities Prepare and cook daily meals according to established menus and portion guidelines Accommodate dietary restrictions, food allergies, and special medical or cultural needs Maintain kitchen cleanliness in compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations Properly store food, label items, and monitor inventory and expiration dates Assist with menu planning and grocery ordering as needed Ensure all meals are served on schedule Follow all facility policies, health department regulations, and food safety standards Maintain a respectful, professional demeanor with residents and staff at all times Support a calm, structured, and recovery-oriented environment Qualifications Previous cooking or food service experience preferred (detox/residential, healthcare, or group setting a plus) Knowledge of basic nutrition and food safety practices Ability to prepare meals for large groups Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Reliable, punctual, and professional Requirements Food Handler's Permit or willingness to obtain one Ability to pass background check and drug screening Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs CPR/First Aid certification (preferred or willingness to obtain) Experience Previous experience working in dietary departments or as a dietary aide is highly preferred Experience in food preparation, cooking, or food service within a restaurant or healthcare setting is advantageous Familiarity with menu planning, meal preparation, and food handling procedures is beneficial Exposure to fine dining environments or the food industry can enhance your ability to deliver high-quality service Skills in knife handling, meal assembly, and maintaining food safety standards are essential Prior kitchen experience or catering background will support your success in this role Compensation Competitive hourly pay based on experience Opportunities for growth within the organization Supportive and team-oriented work culture Join our team and bring your culinary passion to life!
