We're looking for a Temporary Line Cook (Summer) to join our dynamic team at LaSalle Market! As a key member of our kitchen staff, you'll help prepare and cook delicious dishes while ensuring high-quality standards. Prepare and cook food items according to recipes, ensuring high standards of quality, taste, and presentation. Operate kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, stoves, and ovens to cook and prepare food quickly and efficiently. Ensure timely preparation of orders in a fast-paced environment, keeping track of special requests and dietary restrictions. Assist with inventory control by restocking supplies as needed and ensuring kitchen items are organized and ready for use. Keep workstations, kitchen tools, and equipment clean and sanitized, following food safety and hygiene protocols. Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely delivery of orders. Ensure the consistency of food quality, portion sizes, and presentation, meeting the cafe's standards. Follow all safety guidelines related to kitchen operations, including proper handling of kitchen equipment and utensils. Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff and front-of-house team to ensure smooth and efficient service. What You'll Need to beSuccessful:
Prior experience in a kitchen or as a line cook. Basic understanding of food safety practices, such as food handling, cleaning, and sanitation. Proficient in cooking techniques and the ability to prepare a variety of dishes in a fast-paced environment. Strong focus on food quality, presentation, and portion control. Ability to handle multiple orders simultaneously while maintaining a calm and positive attitude. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Bonus ifYou Have These Skills:
Culinary training or relevant certifications. Process Food Safety Certification (such as ServSafe or similar food safety training). Proficiency in using kitchen knives safely and effectively for prepping ingredients. Strong eye for plating food and attention to detail in the visual appeal of each dish. Familiarity with dietary restrictions (e.g., gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan) and the ability to accommodate specific customer needs. Physical & Environmental Demands:
Physical endurance, including standing, walking, and performing tasks at a consistent pace throughout shifts. Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs, including bags of ingredients, food containers, and kitchen equipment. Frequent use of hands for tasks like chopping, stirring, and operating kitchen equipment. Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to access ingredients, kitchen tools, or restock items in cabinets or refrigerators. Exposure to hot temperatures from ovens, stoves, fryers, and grills, as well as cold temperatures from refrigerators and freezers. Kitchen environments can be noisy due to the operation of equipment, conversation among staff, and the sounds of cooking. Must adhere to hygiene and food safety standards, including cleaning cooking stations, handling food properly, and maintaining a safe work environment.
