Job Description
The cook is responsible for preparing safe, nutritious, appealing meals and snacks for residents while following established menus, dietary requirements, food-safety standards, and personal care home policies. The cook helps maintain a clean, sanitary, organized kitchen and dining environment and supports the overall health and comfort of residents. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and beverages according to the approved menu and meal schedule. Prepare meals that are nutritious, appetizing, properly portioned, and appropriate for residents. Follow special dietary instructions, texture modifications, allergies, restrictions, and physician-ordered diets as directed by management. Ensure meals are served at appropriate temperatures and within scheduled meal times. Maintain proper food storage, labeling, dating, rotation, and refrigeration practices. Check food temperatures and refrigeration temperatures as required. Follow food-safety, sanitation, handwashing, and infection-control procedures. Keep kitchen equipment, counters, appliances, sinks, floors, storage areas, and dining areas clean and sanitary. Wash and properly store dishes, cookware, utensils, and food-preparation equipment. Dispose of trash and food waste appropriately. Monitor food inventory and notify management when supplies need to be reordered. Receive and properly store grocery and food deliveries. Help reduce food waste while ensuring adequate portions and resident satisfaction. Follow established menus and obtain approval before making significant substitutions. Report spoiled food, damaged equipment, pest concerns, unsafe conditions, or sanitation problems immediately. Observe resident meal preferences and report significant changes in appetite or eating habits to appropriate staff. Treat residents with dignity, patience, kindness, and respect during meal service. Maintain confidentiality regarding residents and their dietary or health-related information. Follow emergency, fire, evacuation, and workplace safety procedures. Attend required staff meetings and training. Perform other reasonable kitchen, dining, and food-service duties assigned by management.
