The Food Services Coordinator plays a vital role in our ministry by nourishing both the bodies and spirits of our guests. This hybrid role requires a unique blend of culinary skill and servant leadership. On designated nights, you will be the primary cook, preparing nutritious, large-scale meals for shelter residents. On other nights, you will act as a faith-based host for volunteer cooking groups, guiding them in kitchen safety, meal preparation, and fellowship.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Culinary Duties (Primary Cook Nights) Prepare and cook balanced, high-quality meals for large groups (up to 150 guests) from a designated menu. Manage kitchen inventory efficiently, incorporating donated goods and minimizing food waste. Maintain strict food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring the kitchen meets all local health department codes. Supervise and mentor program residents assigned to kitchen chores or work-therapy duties. Volunteer Leadership Duties (Volunteer Nights) Welcome, orient, and supervise community volunteer groups who come to prepare and serve meals. Provide direction and oversight on kitchen safety, equipment usage, and proper food handling. Ensure meals are ready on schedule, stepping in to assist volunteers with cooking tasks as needed. Foster a warm, encouraging atmosphere that connects volunteers to the spiritual mission of the rescue center. Spiritual & Community Leadership Lead short prayers or devotionals with volunteers and kitchen staff before meal shifts begin. Model Christ-like character , patience, and grace when interacting with volunteers, staff, and shelter guests. Maintain a ministry mindset , viewing the kitchen as a space for hospitality, healing, and community building.
Qualifications & Requirements Faith Commitment:
A dedicated, active Christian faith aligned with the Idaho Falls Rescue Mission's statement of faith and core values.
Culinary Experience:
1-2 years of experience cooking in a commercial kitchen, shelter, camp, or high-volume catering environment.
Leadership Skills:
Proven ability to manage, motivate, and patiently direct volunteers of varying skill levels.
Certifications:
Current ServSafe Manager certification (or willingness to obtain one within 30 days of hire).
Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a hot kitchen environment.
Availability:
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and rotating weekends.
Background:
Able to successfully pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug/alcohol test as well as random drug/alcohol tests.
Driving :
Possess a valid driver's license, with no major driving violations in the past five years and reliable transportation.
Pay:
$16.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
