Job Description

The Kokomo YMCA Early Learning Center seeks a Cook to join our team. The cook is responsible to prepare and serve balanced meals and snacks that meet nutritional and medical needs of children enrolled in our Early Learning Center and Out of School Time programs. The cook oversees all kitchen operations, maintains safe, clean and sanitary kitchen, and ensures safe food preparation, storage and disposal in accordance with accepted food handling practices, food safety regulations and child care food guidelines. Time management and organizational skills are a must.

HR Essential Functions:
Meal plans with the Early Learning Center Director, comparative ordering and purchasing provide nutritious meals and snacks that meet dietary guidelines provided by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Prepare and provide infant nutrition. Accommodate for allergies, special dietary and nutritional requirements. Cook will prepare all food to YMCA, State and National nutritional and safety standards. Delivers meals to classrooms and keeps kitchen tidy and organized, including responsibility to clean dishes and kitchen appliances Prepares and sets out afternoon snacks for the Out of School Time program. Follows emergency procedures and safety precautions. Accepts additional assignments as assigned to better the Y's Early Learning Center.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required Able to acquire ServSafe certification Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Prior to first day, completed pre-employment drug screen, Praesidium Multi-State Background, and pass state licensing background Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: CPR; First Aid and AED, and physical.
