Germantown, MDSummary:
The Retreat Center Cook works independently to prepare meals for weekend retreats which are held from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch. This position requires cooking for approximately 12 weekend retreats a year. The majority of our retreats are Friday dinner through Sunday lunch.
Responsibilities:
Food PreparationPlan and shop for six meals for 12-18 peoplePrepare and serve tasty and nutritious lacto-ovo vegetarian meals on time, including baked goodsHelp meet the dietary needs of retreatants when appropriateSet up and break-down meal service for each mealEnsure food is safely served and stored at appropriate temperaturesMaintain an orderly and efficient kitchen workspaceEnsure kitchen meets or surpasses hygiene requirements and safety standards set by regulations
Other:
Ongoing dishwashing throughout the retreat with some support from participants.

Keep up to date with kitchen-related emails, schedules and other communicationsEnsure the kitchen, as well as meal and serving areas, are left clean and food and equipment are stored in an orderly and safe manner following a retreatWork in silence, writing notes to communicate with guests when necessary
Qualifications:
Experience with and enthusiasm for cooking family-style meals for a large groupAbility to work calmly under kitchen pressure and to work patiently with retreatantsAbility to work around retreatants in an appropriate manner to protect the "retreat space" through silence and mindfulnessStrong time management skills; ability to coordinate, follow through and manage a variety of tasks simultaneouslyMust have access to a car and have the ability to shop independently and get to the retreat kitchenMust be able to work on your feet for long hours in the kitchenAbility to complete an approved online course in food-allergy awarenessAbility to take direction from the Kitchen ManagerCompensationthis position is: hourly, $20/hr +
