United Methodist Community House is seeking a dependable, experienced Cook to join our Food Services team. Our kitchen supports programs serving older adults and members of our community, and we're looking for someone who takes pride in preparing quality meals, working as part of a team, and following established food-service and safety standards. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the work of a professional kitchen but also values consistency, teamwork, structure, and purpose. What You'll Do As a Cook, you will: Prepare and cook meals according to established menus, recipes, portion requirements, and production schedules. Follow food-safety, sanitation, storage, temperature-control, and other applicable compliance requirements. Assist with food preparation, service, and kitchen cleanup as needed. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. Properly receive, store, label, rotate, and handle food and supplies. Work collaboratively with Food Services leadership and other team members. Follow supervisory direction and established department procedures. Help ensure meals are prepared accurately, safely, and on time. Support the overall food-service needs of the individuals and programs served by United Methodist Community House. Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone who is: Experienced in food preparation and cooking in a professional or institutional kitchen environment. Current ServSafe designation required, with the ability to maintain it throughout employment. Dependable and able to maintain a consistent work schedule. Comfortable following standardized recipes, menus, portions, and established procedures. Knowledgeable about safe food handling and sanitation practices. Able to receive direction and feedback professionally and make necessary adjustments. Organized and able to manage multiple food-preparation responsibilities. Collaborative, respectful, and comfortable working as part of a team. Committed to providing quality meals to older adults and other members of our community. Experience in senior dining, institutional food service, schools, hospitals, healthcare, catering, community programs, or other high-volume food-service environments is especially valuable.
Qualifications:
Must be able to relate to diverse individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Current ServSafe designation, with the ability to maintain it throughout employment. Have at least 2 years of cooking experience in a high-volume, cafeteria or congregate meal setting preferred. Experience with buffet service and short-order cooking desirable. Familiarity with accommodating dietary restrictions and special diets is a plus. Excellent organizational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail. Skills & Abilities Strong culinary and time-management skills; ability to work under pressure. Understanding of nutrition, portion control, and food safety practices. Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to approximately 50 lbs. Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a team. Commitment to serving older adults with respect, dignity, and compassion. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Commercial kitchen setting (hot surfaces, steam, noise). Requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, frequent hand use. Must adhere to food safety, sanitation, and occupational safety standards.
