Job Description
Line Cook / Kitchen Cook We are looking for a dependable cook to join our small, fast-paced neighborhood bar. We offer the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of a classic dive bar while taking pride in serving elevated bar food that is fresh, consistent, and prepared with care. The ideal candidate can work efficiently in a small kitchen, maintain high standards during busy shifts, contribute positively to a close-knit and small team, and take direction or constructive criticism professionally without becoming offended. Responsibilities Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes, portions, and presentation standards Produce high-quality burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, entrées, and other elevated bar food Complete daily food preparation, including cutting, portioning, labeling, and stocking ingredients Maintain consistent food quality, taste, temperature, and presentation Manage multiple orders accurately during busy service periods Communicate with bartenders, servers, and other kitchen employees Monitor food freshness and properly rotate products using FIFO procedures Follow food-safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling requirements Keep cooking equipment, prep surfaces, coolers, floors, and storage areas clean and organized Assist with receiving deliveries and checking product quality when needed Help monitor inventory and notify management when products are running low Minimize food waste and follow proper portion-control practices Complete opening, closing, and cleaning duties Assist with dishes, trash, and general kitchen upkeep when necessary Treat coworkers, managers, and other team members with respect, even during heated, stressful, or high-pressure situations Perform other reasonable duties that support daily restaurant operations Qualifications Previous restaurant or kitchen experience is preferred but not required Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistent quality Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation Ability to remain organized and calm in a fast-paced environment Dependable attendance and reliable transportation Strong communication and teamwork skills Willingness to learn, take direction, and accept constructive criticism without becoming offended Ability to respond professionally to coaching and make adjustments when needed Ability to work independently when scheduled alone in the kitchen Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with coworkers, including during stressful or challenging shifts Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays as needed Physical Requirements Ability to stand and move throughout the entire shift Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Ability to bend, reach, twist, and work around hot cooking equipment Ability to safely use knives, fryers, grills, ovens, and other kitchen equipment Ability to work in a hot, noisy, and fast-paced environment What We're Looking For We want someone who understands that great bar food should be more than an afterthought. Schedule This position may include daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. Both full-time and part-time availability may be considered.
