Job Description
Summary We are seeking a skilled and passionate Second Cook to join our culinary team at Albany Area Secondary School. In this full-time position, you will play a vital role in preparing nutritious and delicious meals for our students and staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation, menu planning, and kitchen management, along with a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene. Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare a variety of nutritious meals in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines.
- Supervise and train kitchen staff, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to safety and hygiene standards.
- Manage inventory, including ordering, receiving, and storing food and supplies, while minimizing waste.
- Collaborate with school administration to develop menus that meet the nutritional needs of students.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas, following health and safety regulations.
- Monitor food preparation processes to ensure quality and consistency in all meals served.
- Assist in budgeting and cost control measures to ensure financial efficiency in kitchen operations.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance culinary skills and knowledge.
- Respond to student and staff feedback regarding meal options and make adjustments as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal food safety regulations. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; culinary degree or certification preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a kitchen environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, nutrition, and dietary restrictions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices.
- Ability to lift heavy items and stand for extended periods.
- Certified Food Protection Manager License through the State of Minnesota within 60 days of hire.
