The Cook will play an important role in promoting residents' health, comfort, and quality of life by providing meals that are prepared safely, served on time, and responsive to individual dietary needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan and prepare daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks according to established menus. Prepare meals in appropriate portions and ensure food is attractive and appetizing. Follow residents' dietary restrictions, allergies, food preferences, and special nutritional requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food-preparation area. Follow all applicable food-safety, sanitation, and infection-control practices. Properly store, label, and rotate food and supplies to reduce waste. Monitor food inventory and notify management when supplies need to be replenished. Maintain accurate records related to menus, meals, temperatures, and food storage as required. Clean and properly maintain kitchen equipment and utensils. Assist with receiving and putting away food deliveries. Minimize food waste while maintaining appropriate food quality and portions. Communicate professionally with residents, caregivers, and facility staff. Respond appropriately to changes in residents' dietary needs. Perform other kitchen and meal-service duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous cooking experience, preferably in an assisted living, group home, healthcare, or institutional setting. Knowledge of basic food preparation and safe food-handling practices. Ability to follow menus and recipes consistently. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Ability to communicate effectively with residents and staff. Ability to pass required background and employment screening.
Preferred:
Food-handler certification or ServSafe certification. Experience preparing meals for individuals with special dietary needs. Experience working with older adults or individuals with disabilities or other support needs. Physical Requirements The Cook must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Lift and carry food supplies and kitchen equipment within reasonable limits. Bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive kitchen tasks. Work safely around hot surfaces, ovens, cooking equipment, and cleaning products.
