In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing, and appropriately portioned meals for assisted living residents. You will follow established menus and dietary guidelines while maintaining high standards of food quality, sanitation, safety, and resident satisfaction. The position works closely with the dietary team and facility staff to ensure residents receive meals that meet their individual dietary needs. Duties Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and special meals according to established menus. Follow recipes, portion-control guidelines, and standardized food-preparation procedures. Prepare meals that accommodate residents' dietary restrictions, allergies, and prescribed diets. Modify food textures and consistencies when required, such as chopped, minced, or pureed diets. Ensure meals are served at the proper temperature and on schedule. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food-preparation area. Follow food-safety, sanitation, and infection-control procedures. Properly store, label, date, and rotate food products. Monitor food inventory and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be reordered. Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, ranges, mixers, slicers, and dishwashing equipment. Minimize food waste while maintaining appropriate food quality and portions. Assist with meal service, dining-room preparation, and cleanup as needed. Follow facility policies and applicable health and safety regulations. Communicate effectively with dietary staff, caregivers, nurses, and supervisors regarding residents' meal needs. Maintain respectful and courteous interactions with residents and respond appropriately to their food preferences or concerns. Complete required temperature logs, cleaning records, and other dietary documentation. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous cooking or food-service experience preferred; experience in healthcare, assisted living, nursing homes, or senior living is a plus. Knowledge of basic food preparation, cooking methods, portion control, and food safety. Ability to follow recipes, menus, and written or verbal instructions. Ability to prepare meals for individuals with special dietary requirements. Ability to safely operate standard commercial kitchen equipment. Good organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move food supplies and kitchen equipment within the requirements of the position.
