Cook (Part-time) Weekend The Servant Center - 3.1 Greensboro, NC Job Details Part-time $16 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Food preparation for special diets ServSafe Employee relationship building High school diploma or GED Driver's License Experience working with individuals with specific dietary needs Perishable goods management Manual handling Community relationship building Kitchen organization Communication with kitchen staff Full Job Description Job purpose The Servant Center's Cook prepares nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents in The Servant Center's Homeless and Medical Respite Programs while maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant kitchen environment. Essential Functions Prepare menus and meals in accordance with approved meal plans and nutritional guidelines. Prepare appropriate meals for individuals with allergies, religious dietary requirements, or medical conditions requiring specialized diets. Obtain necessary food supplies from Second Harvest Food Bank, local grocery stores, food donations, and other approved sources. Maintain all required food inventory and donation logs, including weighing food donations and recording temperatures as required by Second Harvest Food Bank. Rotate food inventory to ensure products are used within their expiration dates and properly dispose of expired food items. Prepare food according to applicable health and sanitation standards and monitor compliance with kitchen health codes. Ensure water, snacks, and other approved food items are available for residents between meals and after hours. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, dining room, food storage areas, and equipment to meet Veterans Administration (VA), and organizational standards. Ensure all kitchen appliances and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained; report maintenance concerns promptly to the Facilities Manager. Monitor resident participation in kitchen and dining room chores and report concerns or discrepancies to the Director of Facilities and Procurement. Work cooperatively with volunteers assisting in meal preparation and kitchen activities. Collaborate with other kitchen staff to promote quality meal preparation, consistency, sanitation, and efficient kitchen operations. Maintain all records, logs, and documentation required by Second Harvest Food Bank, Veterans Administration, and organizational policies. Work two weekends per month as scheduled with occasional 3rd weekend as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. This description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not proscribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Required Qualifications Minimum of two (2) years of experience cooking in a commercial kitchen. Ability to prepare large-quantity meals while minimizing food waste. Ability to prepare meals that accommodate dietary restrictions and specialized nutritional needs. Current ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe. Valid North Carolina driver's license Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, residents, volunteers, vendors, and community partners. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with homeless individuals, veterans, medical respite clients, or other vulnerable populations. Experience receiving, storing, and managing donated food inventory. Most work is performed in a commercial kitchen. Physical Requirements Requires frequent standing for long periods and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
