Job Description

Cooks Helper (every other weekend) 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and a minimum of the 10th grade formal education or G.E.D. or 16 years under kitchen machine guidelines.
  • Be of good moral character, and of good physical and mental condition
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check, Nurse Aide Registry and Adult/Child Central Registry of Abuse and Neglect
  • Have good job, educational and personal references.
  • Professional food service and supervisory experience.
  • Experienced knowledge of the following: Menu planning, working with special diets, planning for and ordering groceries, inventory management, and knowledge of the Nebraska Food Code.
Orientation:

The Cook will be oriented according to the policy and procedure for new employee orientation. Orientation will include evidence of training and information on resident's rights, the resident service agreement, emergency procedures, and information on any physical and mental special care needs of the residents in the facility, information on privacy and confidentiality, information on abuse, neglect and misappropriation of money or property of a resident and reporting procedures, and disaster preparedness plans. The Cook will perform the following duties:

  • Comply with the Nebraska Food Code
  • Plan for and provide adequate nutrition in menu planning and preparing meals for all residents considering special diets, food preferences, and other special nutritional and physical needs
  • Follow information regarding resident preferences, allergies, food dislikes, and dietary restrictions in preparing daily meals.
  • Clock in at 11:00 a.m. and begin lunch preparations, for lunch salads.
  • Prepare dessert to be served at 12:30 p.m. after lunch meal. Follow planned menus and recipes. Always look ahead on the menu schedule so that meats are thawed and prepared as needed, and all supplies are available
  • Review next day meal and make a list of your stuff to make for next day.
  • Help dining room clean and get dishes done.
  • Help keep track of food and kitchen supply inventory
  • Stock shelves and organize the pantry, refrigerators and freezers
  • Keep kitchen cupboards and appliances clean and organized following the posted cleaning schedule.
  • Work with the activity director reviewing comments and concerns from the resident council meeting concerning the dietary department.
  • Work with the administrator and activity coordinator in planning menus and refreshments for holidays, parties, and special events
  • Work well with others in a supervisory manner, provide leadership, work efficiently, set a positive example for other dietary employees
Other Job Duties:
  • Read and follow directions and schedules of the facility as they pertain to the dietary department
  • Maintain the interior physical facility according to principles of sanitation
  • Maintain personal qualities which allow for good working relationships with other employees
  • Show a sincere desire to make the atmosphere surrounding the residents as pleasant as possible
  • Follow guidelines for emergency procedures, disaster preparedness, incident reporting
