Job Description
The Assistant Cook/Kitchen Helper shall perform his/her general duties under the supervision of the Director and when assigned food service responsibilities, under the supervision of the Cook. The Helper performs functions related to housekeeping, food service and the maintenance and distribution of supplies. In addition, the Helper is expected to accept training related to food preparation and cooking so that he/she may substitute for the Cook when agreed or when required (emergency).
Food & Meal Service Responsibilities:
- Assist cook in preparing food as needed
- Arrange tables/carts for breakfast, lunch and snack times
- Distribute dishes, cutlery, and food to children's classrooms
Housekeeping Responsibilities :
- Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping/mopping kitchen floor an maintain sanitary environment
- Clean eating areas before and after breakfast, lunch and snack times
- Wash dishes and utensils according to sanitary practices
- Remove kitchen garbage to outside receptacles
- Care for cleaning equipment used
Records & Supplies Responsibilities:
- Assist with inventory and distribution of sanitary supplies
- Other related duties, as assigned, consistent with the above
Other Responsibilities:
-Substitute as floater Aide for classrooms, if necessaryQualifications :
- High School Diploma
- Previous related experience in housekeeping and food service
- Ability to follow written work schedules and keep simple inventory of supplies on hand, as needed.
- Ability to maintain sanitary work and personal habits.
- NYC Food Handling Certificate - REQUIRED Prior experience in a childcare setting is preferred The salary and benefits are contractually determined.
