Job Description

Kendal on Hudson is hiring an experienced Lead Cook to take a hands-on leadership role in our professional kitchen. You'll lead the kitchen team during assigned shifts, execute daily meal service, and help maintain high standards for food quality, safety, and presentation. What You'll Do Lead line cooks and prep staff during assigned shifts Prepare and plate meals using standardized recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards Monitor food quality, taste, temperature, and presentation throughout service Help execute daily meal service, special events, and themed dining Train and coach kitchen staff on recipes, cooking techniques, and food safety Manage inventory, rotate stock, communicate ordering needs, and help reduce waste Accommodate resident allergies, dietary restrictions, and special requests in coordination with dining and nutrition teams Maintain sanitation, HACCP, and food-safety standards Keep the kitchen organized, safe, and properly maintained Serve as the shift leader when the Executive Chef or Sous Chef is not present This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications. What We're Looking For 3+ years of professional cooking experience Lead or supervisory kitchen experience preferred Experience in senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or upscale dining is a plus Strong knife skills and knowledge of multiple cooking methods and cuisines Ability to execute standardized recipes and adjust quantities for production Knowledge of food safety, portion control, and therapeutic/modified diets ServSafe Food Handler/Manager certification required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire Strong communication and team-leadership skills Culinary degree or formal culinary training preferred; equivalent professional experience considered Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Physical Requirements Stand and walk for an entire shift Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motion Work around heat, steam, sharp tools, and commercial kitchen cleaning chemicals Why This Role This is a working lead position for an experienced cook who wants responsibility for both food execution and the kitchen team during their shift. You'll have a direct impact on the quality of meals served to Kendal on Hudson residents and will work closely with the Executive Chef and Sous Chef.
