We are a community of residents, staff, and volunteers working together to provide essential services for men and women experiencing homelessness in Greater Cincinnati. We are seeking a dependable and skilled Cook to help plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals for shelter residents. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen, values teamwork, and takes pride in feeding others with care and consistency. What You'll Do Prepare and serve meals for 150+ residents according to the daily meal schedule and approved menus. Ensure breakfast, lunch, and dinner service runs efficiently and on time. Work closely with Resident Aides and team members during meal service. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen that meets Shelterhouse standards. Follow all food safety, sanitation, storage, and handling guidelines in compliance with State of Ohio and federal regulations. Accurately complete temperature logs, menu records, and required kitchen documentation. Rotate, label, and store food items properly. Restock supplies and prepare ingredients/meals for upcoming shifts. Collaborate with fellow cooks on bi-weekly menu planning and kitchen operations. Support a positive, respectful dining experience for residents. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Culinary certification and/or ServSafe Certification or willing to get it within first week of employment. Minimum of 3 years of experience in large-volume meal preparation. Knowledge of food safety regulations, sanitation practices, and proper food storage procedures. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds . Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays. Preferred Qualifications Experience in shelters, healthcare, schools, cafeterias, nonprofits, or institutional food service settings. Experience preparing meals for large groups with limited resources while maintaining quality and efficiency. Skills for Success Strong time management and organization skills. Ability to work independently and stay productive during busy shifts. Team-oriented mindset with willingness to support others. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. Attention to detail with food prep, safety, and documentation. Dependable, adaptable, and mission-driven.
