A Cook prepares food in a restaurant or institutional kitchen. May be responsible for a specific station or type of food preparation in a larger kitchen, or specialize as a short-order or fast-food cook. May prepare meals in private homes, or cater parties.
Dining Student Position Summary Gettysburg College Dining Services is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Cook to join our culinary team on a temporary basis. This position plays a key role in preparing high-quality hot and cold menu items for our students, faculty, staff, and guests, following established recipes and daily production guidelines. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced kitchen, enjoy hands-on food preparation, and take pride in delivering excellent customer service through great food. This position also supports campus catering events, assisting with food production, setup, and dish-up both in the Dining Center and at other campus locations.

desired work schedule is Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 am - 6:30 pm, with some flexibility What You'll Do Prepare hot and cold menu items according to recipes and daily production sheets Cook menu items to order in areas such as Saute, Chef's Table, Pizza, & Smart Eats Prepare and bake pizzas and toppings using proper cooking techniques Adjust production quantities based on participation, waste, and menu changes Collaborate with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and team members to plan and execute daily menus Support students with special dietary needs and food allergies Assist with the setup, delivery, and dish-up of food for catered campus events Maintain accurate food production and usage records Ensure all food is properly labeled, stored, and handled according to safety standards Clean and sanitize all work areas and equipment, maintaining a "clean as you go" kitchen Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and effectively Qualifications What We're Looking For High school diploma or equivalent required 1-2 years of food service experience highly desired Institutional food preparation experience is a plus, but not required Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment Strong knife handling skills preferred Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Strong customer service orientation Ability to work well with a diverse team of students, faculty, and staff Flexibility to work across different areas of Dining Services as needed Willingness to work scheduled hours, including occasional overtime Certifications Food Safety Manager Certificate (such as ServSafe Manager) preferred Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
