IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT
Must meet all applicable SC DSS Child Care Licensing requirements to work in a licensed childcare facility, including all required background checks, health documentation, training, and other applicable licensing requirements. The Preschool Cook is responsible for daily meal and snack preparation while maintaining compliance with South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) Child Care Licensing requirements , applicable health and sanitation regulations, and the PMMA's food service policies. Responsibilities Prepare and serve daily meals and snacks according to the Academy's menu and established meal schedule. Follow USDA meal pattern requirements and approved nutrition guidelines. Prepare meals appropriate for young children and accommodate documented food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special dietary needs. Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen and food preparation areas. Follow proper food-handling, food-storage, temperature-control, and sanitation procedures. Properly label, date, store, and rotate food supplies. Monitor food inventory and notify administration when supplies need to be ordered. Follow all applicable South Carolina DSS childcare licensing requirements. Follow all applicable health department and food safety requirements. Ensure meals and snacks are prepared and served according to the required schedule. Prevent cross-contamination and follow established procedures for children with food allergies. Properly clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, counters, and food preparation surfaces. Maintain appropriate personal hygiene and follow required food-service practices. Communicate with administration regarding menu concerns, food shortages, or equipment issues. Complete all required training and maintain required certifications. Perform other kitchen and food-service duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous experience preparing meals for children, preferably in a preschool, childcare center, school, or similar setting. Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices. Ability to follow menus, recipes, serving sizes, and dietary instructions. Ability to work independently and maintain an organized kitchen. Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential. Ability to work effectively around young children and maintain a calm, professional demeanor. Must meet all applicable SC DSS Child Care Licensing requirements. Must successfully complete required background checks and other pre-employment requirements. Must be willing to complete and maintain all required training and certifications. Physical Requirements Must be able to safely walk up and down stairs throughout the workday, as the kitchen is located upstairs. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, lift, carry, and move food supplies and kitchen equipment as needed. Ability to safely perform routine kitchen duties in a childcare environment.
