Job Description

Cook food that fuels a camp. Work somewhere that means something. Specialty Food Services is hiring Cooks to join our team at Camp Buckner in Burnet, Texas — $17.00/hour to start, more for experience. A note on who you'd work for: Specialty Food Services manages the dining operation at Camp Buckner. You'd be an SFS employee, working on site at the camp. We serve about 3 meals a day out in the Hill Country — youth camps one week, adult and church retreats the next, corporate and business groups after that. It's real cooking at real volume, for people who are genuinely glad you're feeding them. What the job is You'll cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner — scratch cooking from a set menu, prep ahead, buffet-line and family-style service, and keeping your station and the walk-in clean and organized. The guests change from week to week, and so does the menu and the pace. If you've ever been bored cooking the same covers every night, you won't be here. The schedule 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM, 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM Year-round, full-time We'll be straight with you about the on/off rotation in the first conversation — it's the question every camp cook asks, and you deserve a real answer before you apply What you need 1+ year cooking in volume — restaurant, camp, school, healthcare, hotel, or church kitchen Food Handler card, or you can get one in your first 30 days — we help Reliable transportation Comfortable serving a wide range of guests — youth groups, adults, church retreats, and corporate clients About the setting: Camp Buckner is a Christian camp and retreat center that hosts youth camps, adult and church retreats, and business and corporate groups. You don't need to be a member of any particular faith to work here — but you should be comfortable in that environment and respectful of every guest we serve. What we offer $17.00/hour to start — up to $19.00 with experience Free meals on every shift Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off Uniforms provided Scratch cooking at real volume — a new group every week Why people take this job You're cooking at real scale, from scratch, for people who came here on purpose. A youth camp one week, a church retreat the next, a company off-site after that — the menu, the volume, and the pace all change with them. Nobody here eats and leaves. They sit down together, three times a day, for a few days straight, and the food is part of what makes the week work. If you've ever felt like a line cook running the same twelve covers on repeat, this is the opposite of that. Apply in 2 minutes. We respond the same day. Questions about the schedule or the drive? Email apply@specialtyfs.com and we'll talk it through.
