In the middle of the neighborhood, Bayview operates a comprehensive community center that offers culturally relevant and responsive educational, social, recreational, and cultural programs and services. Programs and services aim to support community members in achieving their aspirations and helping families thrive. After years of in-depth planning with residents and community leaders, Bayview is in its final year of a phased, three year plan to rebuild the 6.4 acre property. Since early 2025, the new Bayview features 130 apartment and townhouse units, providing affordable, dignified housing for up to 500 residents. The campus also features a stunning neighborhood center that serves the entire neighborhood with programming in the following areas: food access; youth development and education; adult education and skill advancement; social work and resource navigation; senior meals and wellness; art and cultural programs. You can find more information about Bayview and the redevelopment project on our website: Position Summary The Community Cook runs Bayview's kitchen five days a week. The Cook prepares lunch Monday through Friday and dinner for youth program participants Tuesday through Friday. That comes to about 100 meals a day. The Cook plans menus, orders supplies, cooks, serves, and keeps the kitchen clean and safe. The Cook works closely with the Adult Program Coordinator to stay on budget and keep supplies stocked. Duties and Responsibilities Meals Plans, prepares, and serves nutritious lunches Mon-Friday. Prepares youth dinners Tue-Fri for youth staff to serve. Plans menus that are affordable, balanced, and reflect the cultures of Bayview families. Adjusts meals for dietary needs, allergies, and religious practices. Publishes a monthly menu so families and staff know what to expect. Kitchen Operations and Safety Opens and closes the kitchen every day, including setup and cleanup. Labels and stores prepared dinners with reheating and serving instructions for youth staff. Follows food safety and sanitation rules at all times. Keeps the kitchen, storage areas, and equipment clean and in good working order. Tracks food temperatures, storage dates, and inventory. Supplies and Budget Orders food and supplies in regular communication with the Adult Program Coordinator Tracks kitchen expenses and stays within budget. Keeps program records, including meal counts, receipts, and inventory. People and Community Serves as a positive role model for elementary, middle, and high school youth. Develops positive relationships with all adults and families at Bayview, regardless of program participation. Trains and supports volunteers and kitchen helpers. Works as a team member with Youth, Adult, and Housing staff to coordinate meal times and special events. Attends trainings on topics like food safety, CPR, community engagement, and racial equity. Ability to prepare nutritious meals for about 100 people a day, on time and on budget. Experience cooking in a school, restaurant, catering, or other high-volume kitchen. Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards. Commitment to racial equity, anti-racism, and advocating for the community. Ability to build positive relationships with adults, children, and families. Clear communicator who works well with coworkers and partners. Able to work independently, manage time, set priorities, and take initiative. Requirements ServSafe Food Manager certification, or willingness to earn it within 30 days of hire. Ability to maintain confidentiality with program participants and sensitive information. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for long periods. Background check required.

This is a .625 FTE (25 hours/week) position

Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Compensation:
$18-20 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
