About the Role The Cook position at Stoughton Kegonsa Elementary is integral to providing nutritious, well-prepared meals that support the health and well-being of students and staff. This role involves preparing a variety of food items in accordance with established recipes, safety standards, and dietary guidelines to ensure quality and consistency. The successful candidate will manage kitchen operations efficiently, maintaining cleanliness and organization while adhering to food safety regulations. Collaboration with kitchen staff and school personnel is essential to meet meal service schedules and accommodate special dietary needs. Ultimately, this role contributes to creating a positive dining experience that fosters a healthy learning environment. Job Responsibilities Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes and menu plans. Ensure all food preparation and storage complies with health and safety regulations. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas. Assist in inventory management by receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies. Communicate effectively with team members and school staff to coordinate meal service times and special dietary accommodations. Minimum Qualifications Proven experience in food preparation and cooking in a commercial or institutional kitchen setting. Ability to speak and understand English to follow instructions and communicate effectively. Demonstrated manual dexterity and ability to handle kitchen tools and equipment safely. Capability to stand for extended periods during food preparation and service. Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices. Preferred Qualifications Formal culinary training or certification in food safety (e.g., ServSafe). Experience working in a school or institutional food service environment. Familiarity with accommodating special dietary needs such as allergies or religious restrictions. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Basic knowledge of inventory and supply management. Skills The required skills such as food preparation and manual dexterity are essential for efficiently and safely handling kitchen tasks, from chopping ingredients to operating cooking equipment. Proficiency in English enables clear communication with colleagues and supervisors, ensuring instructions and safety protocols are understood and followed. Standing for extended periods is necessary to maintain productivity during meal preparation and service times. Food production skills ensure that meals are prepared consistently and meet quality standards, contributing to the overall satisfaction of students and staff. Preferred skills like food safety certification and experience with special dietary needs enhance the ability to provide safe, inclusive, and high-quality meals in a school setting.
Requirements:
2 years previous experience in a school food service setting preferred Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner Able to follow supervisors direction and lead a small team Strong communication skills with employees and client Able to follow spoken and written directions Ability to prioritize, plan and use time efficiently Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time Maintain a high level of confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information ServSafe Certificate preferred Criminal background check required EOE/AA
