About the RoleThe Cook position at Stoughton Kegonsa Elementary is integral to providing nutritious, well-prepared meals that support the health and well-being of students and staff. This role involves preparing a variety of food items in accordance with established recipes, safety standards, and dietary guidelines to ensure quality and consistency. The successful candidate will manage kitchen operations efficiently, maintaining cleanliness and organization while adhering to food safety regulations. Collaboration with kitchen staff and school personnel is essential to meet meal service schedules and accommodate special dietary needs. Job ResponsibilitiesPrepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes and menu plans.
Ensure all food preparation and storage complies with health and safety regulations.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
Assist in inventory management by receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies.
Communicate effectively with team members and school staff to coordinate meal service times and special dietary accommodations.
Minimum QualificationsProven experience in food preparation and cooking in a commercial or institutional kitchen setting.
Ability to speak and understand English to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
Demonstrated manual dexterity and ability to handle kitchen tools and equipment safely.
Capability to stand for extended periods during food preparation and service.
Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
Preferred QualificationsFormal culinary training or certification in food safety (e.g., ServSafe).Experience working in a school or institutional food service environment.
Familiarity with accommodating special dietary needs such as allergies or religious restrictions.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Basic knowledge of inventory and supply management.

Preferred skills like food safety certification and experience with special dietary needs enhance the ability to provide safe, inclusive, and high-quality meals in a school setting. 2 years previous experience in a school food service setting preferred Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner Able to follow supervisors direction and lead a small team
