Job Description
Restaurant Dishwasher / Food Prep Position Summary The Dishwasher / Food Prep team member plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen while assisting with food preparation to ensure efficient kitchen operations. This position is responsible for washing and sanitizing all kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, and cookware, maintaining cleanliness throughout the kitchen, and assisting the culinary team with daily prep tasks while following all food safety and health department regulations. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesDishwashing & Sanitation Wash, rinse, and sanitize all dishes, glassware, silverware, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment. Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently. Properly store all clean dishes, cookware, and kitchen equipment. Keep dishwashing stations clean, organized, and fully stocked. Empty trash and recycling throughout the shift as needed. Break down and clean dish machine at the end of each shift. Sweep, mop, and sanitize all kitchen floors. Clean kitchen mats, drains, sinks, walls, shelving, and workstations. Maintain clean employee break and dish areas. Assist with deep cleaning projects as assigned. Food Preparation Wash, peel, cut, slice, and portion vegetables and fruits. Prepare ingredients according to recipes and chef specifications. Portion sauces, dressings, and other food items. Prepare salads, garnishes, and other cold food items. Assist with stocking and organizing prep stations. Rotate food using FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory practices. Properly label and date all prepared food items. Ensure all food is stored at safe temperatures. Notify management of low inventory or product shortages. Kitchen Organization Maintain organized walk-in coolers, freezers, dry storage, and prep areas. Store products according to health department standards. Assist with receiving and putting away deliveries. Keep prep tables and workstations clean throughout the shift. Ensure cleaning chemicals are stored properly and safely. Maintain organization of pots, pans, sheet trays, and kitchen utensils. Food Safety & Sanitation Follow all local health department regulations. Practice proper handwashing and personal hygiene. Prevent cross-contamination between raw and ready-to-eat foods. Maintain proper food temperatures during preparation and storage. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary. Report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues immediately. Team Responsibilities Assist cooks and chefs with prep needs during busy periods. Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and management. Maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance. Arrive on time and prepared for each scheduled shift. Be willing to assist in other kitchen areas as business needs require. Support team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations. Qualifications Previous restaurant or kitchen experience preferred but not required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong work ethic and reliability. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, bend, lift, and walk for extended periods. Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Food Handler Card required (or ability to obtain within required timeframe). Knowledge & Skills Basic knife handling skills. Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices. Ability to work efficiently under pressure. Strong organizational skills. Attention to detail. Team-oriented mindset. Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities. Dependable and punctual. Physical Requirements Stand for extended periods throughout the shift. Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Push and pull carts, racks, and equipment. Work safely in wet, hot, and fast-paced kitchen conditions.
